A newly deployed excavator-mounted round hedge trimmer has officially entered service for highway greening maintenance in Ninghua, delivering a major leap in operational efficiency and trimming quality for local road management.
The Ninghua Highway Branch manages 166.327 kilometers of national and provincial trunk roads, plus around 180 kilometers of rural roads. Large numbers of shrub balls planted along the roads require trimming 2 to 3 times per year. Traditionally, the work was completed manually by maintenance workers with handheld chainsaws and electric saws, resulting in inconsistent shapes and sizes, low productivity, and physical strain on workers.
To address these challenges, the local highway department launched a mechanical upgrading initiative. After half a year of field testing and technical optimization, the excavator-mounted round hedge trimmer was formally put into operation.
Powered by the excavator’s hydraulic system and fitted with an arc-shaped rotary blade, the equipment completes the full trimming process — including blade leveling, centering and rotary cutting — in less than 2 minutes per shrub ball. The finished shrubs feature uniform size and neat, consistent rounded shapes, greatly improving the overall visual quality of roadside green belts.
On-site data shows the trimmer increases trimming efficiency by more than 5 times compared with manual work. It also significantly improves workplace safety: workers no longer need to perform long hours of handheld cutting or work at height, eliminating common risks such as lumbar strain and fall hazards.
“The round hedge trimmer is a practical example of how mechanization upgrades road maintenance,” said an on-site representative from the Ninghua Highway Branch. “We will keep advancing mechanized and intelligent maintenance solutions to further improve management efficiency and road environment quality.”
Jason Mach provides heavy-duty round hedge trimmer attachments for excavators, designed for highway maintenance, municipal landscaping and large-scale garden management. Built for high efficiency and consistent trimming results, the equipment helps customers reduce labor costs and upgrade their operational capacity.
